I am officially on an owl kick. I had bought an owl stamp from Michaels a bit ago and he's just been sitting in my stamp stash patiently waiting to be used. Well, Thursday I rummaged through my stash to look for a stamp to use to make sample color cards of my Tim Holtz Distress Inks.
(These came about as an excuse to bust open the new Fall Limited Edition colors)
I found this cute little owl.
If you think he's cute now, just wait until you see the two projects that I created with him.
Here are the sample color cards that got it all started.
Now on to the two projects. They came out of the need to use the images I stamped but messed up on the color sample cards. I couldn't let those perfectly good images go to waste. I cut them out with a small white border and came up with these projects.
This card is 4x4. The cardstock is from the Recollections Value Pack from Michaels. The inks used are Tim Holtz Distress inks in Ripe Persimmon and Gathered Twigs. The embossing folder is called Spots and Dots from Provocraft.
This next one ended up being 5 1/4 x 5 1/4. Unlike what I usually do, I actually worked backward and didn't start with the finished size. I started with the brown background for the owl and worked outward from there. Once again, all the cardstock used is from my trusty Recollections Value Pack from Michaels. The ink is from Stampin' Up!'s In-color collection from a few years back, Bermuda Bay. The word art stamp is also from Stampin' Up! The background flower stamp is from Michaels dollar bin also. I absolutely love the dollar bin at Michaels. You just never know what you'll find. I stamped the flowers stamp with VersaMark ink and embossed it with clear embossing powder. The ribbon is from my longtime growing stash so unfortunately I don't know where I got it from. It was probably from Hobby Lobby because that's where my stash started growing. The rhinestones came from Michaels also.
So here comes the surprise. This ISN'T a card! Ha, fooled ya! Here is a picture of the back.
I used the Tim Holtz easel die to cut out the recycled plastic. The ATG gun was the perfect adhesive to adhere the easel to the "card". I think Jason just might sneak away with this project to display on his new desk at work. That's okay! At least I know that he likes the projects that I make.
Okay, so the next time your in Michaels, check out the dollar spinner in the middle of the scrapbook section. You just don't know what you'll find in there that will inspire you and set you off on your next creative kick;) Happy Saturday and I hope you have a great weekend!
